CREATION OF THE RESILIENT PUERTO RICO ADVISORY COMMISSION (RPRAC)
The Ford Foundation, The Rockefeller Foundation, and Open Societies Foundation came together in 2017 to support a locally-led effort that defines pathways towards the recovery and rebuilding of Puerto Rico in the face of Hurricane Maria and other disasters.

The Commissioners serve as ambassadors of the Commission. Throughout the Commission’s Working Groups, they offered technical expertise in a variety of topic areas. This Initial meeting served to provide them an overview of the Commission’s vision, mission, and process.
YOUTH PARTICIPATORY PHOTOGRAPHY LAUNCH
February 5-9, 2018
The Commission collaborated with six schools, one from each of the six designated regions. Approximately 60 students, ranging from primary to high school, from each school participated in this activity. Each student was given digital cameras so that they could frame, through photography, issues or experiences in their community.

The objective of the first Working Group meetings was to identify goals, needs, and opportunities that may lead to a resilient Puerto Rico.
YOUTH PARTICIPATORY PHOTOGRAPHY DISCUSSION & EXHIBITION

Following the Youth Participatory Photography launch, the engagement team held a forum discussion and photo exhibit during which students were able to share their stories about their photographs.
1ST COMMUNITY FOCUS GROUP MEETINGS
February 24 – March 4, 2018
The objective of the first set of Community Focus Group meetings was to efficiently understand recovery, resilience, and engagement issues and opportunities from a diversity of perspectives, including youth, seniors, social service providers, recovery workers, and educators, among others.
PUBLIC SECTOR ADVISORY COMMITTEE MEETING
February 28, 2018
This meeting brought together a variety of Puerto Rico Government agencies and leaders with the objective of exchanging information on the Government’s public policies and efforts related to the recovery and rebuilding of Puerto Rico.
2ND WORKING GROUP MEETINGS (RESILIENCE LENS)
March 13-15, 2018
Feeding from the recommendations and input provided by community engagement activities, Working Group members worked to refine opportunities through a resilience lens.
3RD WORKING GROUP MEETINGS (DRAFT RECOMMENDATIONS)
April 10-12, 2018
During these last Working Group meetings, the discussions mostly focused on the recommendations that were later presented as part of the final report.
TOWN HALL MEETINGS
June 26 – September 18, 2018
During these meetings, the Commission shared with communities how their input informed the recommendations. Additionally, communities were presented with next steps regarding rebuilding, recovery, and resilience, and the associated citizen participation.
RPRAC REPORT LAUNCH

The RPRAC Report will offer recommendations that will serve to guide a process that leads towards a full recovery that also strengthens our ability to consistently face any natural or socioeconomic impacts in the future.
